CRUSADERS COMPUTER CURRICULUM
In this set of
projects students acquire an understanding of productivity software
applications.
The 5th-8th Grade
Crusaders Computer Curriculum is comprised of fourteen projects.
Each project contains seven lessons that are approximately forty
five minutes in length. A student workbook* accompanies each teacher
guide.
The themes for each
project reinforces concepts being taught in the classroom such as
space exploration, geographic locations, and famous people.

TechnoCEO:
In this project, students assume the role of a Chief
Executive Officer. They must create a presentation for
potential investors. An animated logo, organization chart,
and financial information are combined on slides to report
company performance.

TechnoDirector:
In this project, students become executives working for
the advertising agency "TechnoDirect". Students
must create an advertising campaign promoting a product.
Their idea is pitched to clients in a multimedia
presentation.

TechnoEditor:
In this project, students assume the role of an editor.
Using Microsoft Word, they learn essential word processing
skills allowing them to revise a collection of stories
written for children.

TechnoEntrepreneur:
In this project, students become restaurant owners. As
entrepreneurs, their job is to form a business plan and
then produce a report to potential investors. Following
this students design a blueprint of the restaurant layout
and calculate earnings. This information is assembled into
a newsletter that promotes the restaurant as a franchise
opportunity.

TechnoEzine:
In this project, students become magazine journalists for
an interactive pre-teen magazine. They write articles
reporting the events related to their age group. Learning
word processing skills, students publish a magazine their
peers will enjoy.

TechnoHTML:
In this project, students gain an appreciation for HTML
coding. By examining source code, students explore how
HTML tags function. Students then write their own HTML
codes to create a web page that includes graphics,
hyperlinks, and formatted text.

TechnoInspector:
In this project, students produce a television show called
“TechnoInspector”. In order to achieve a final
product, they must select characters and develop a plot.
Their ideas are then organized into an animated,
multimedia storyboard.

TechnoInvestor:
In this project, students become stockbrokers, who buy and
sell stocks to earn money for their customers. They learn
how the stock market functions by purchasing shares in
companies listed on the TechnoStock Exchange (TSE).
Students keep track of their investment and summarize the
information in a report.

TechnoJournalist:
In this project, students become journalists designing an
interactive movie guide. Researching to collect and
organize facts, students develop fabulous content for an
upcoming release.

TechnoMission:
In this project, students complete a mission. They
select their crewmembers and design a mission crest. Once
prepared for the voyage they blast into cyberspace to
complete their mission objectives.

TechnoNASA:
In this project, students are assigned the role of
database-designer. Students learn how to build a database
that contains space mission data. This information is used
to select personnel for upcoming launches.

TechnoTravel:
In this project, students become travel agents. They plan
a weekend getaway to an exotic location. To promote this
trip they design a presentation that can be accessed from
the Internet, run on a kiosk, or handed to customers as a
brochure to inform them about this exciting vacation
hotspot.

In this project, students become webmasters hired to
design a web page. Using the tools in Microsoft Publisher,
students publish a meaningful contribution to the World

TechnoWebmaster:
In this project, students become webmasters. After
researching the elements that make a web site popular,
they create a web site that is a tribute to a famous
person. Throughout the project, there are activities about
the inventors and industry leaders of the Internet.
