2nd-4th GRADE
CRUSADER COMPUTER CURRICULUM
In this set of
projects students are introduced to Information Communication
Technology (ICT).
The 2nd-4th Grade
Crusader Computer Curriculum is comprised of eleven projects. Each
project contains seven lessons that are approximately forty five
minutes in length. A student workbook* accompanies each teacher
guide.
The themes for each
project reinforces concepts being taught in the classroom such as
poetry, endangered species, and medieval times.

TechnoBiz:
In this project, students research to find out why a
famous candy-line has been losing popularity. Adding up
all the numbers and displaying the results in a chart
helps students plan a way to make this candy #1 again.
Their findings are reported in a detailed report.

TechnoClue:
In this project, students become police officers. They
learn how to view and search records in a digital database
to solve the mystery of the Missing Keys on the Keyboard.
With the crime solved, they produce multimedia footage of
the mischief-maker.

TechnoCorrespondent:
In this project, students assume the role of a
correspondent traveling to a distant location to report on
an historical structure. They apply their knowledge of
word processing and photo editing to write an article for
the "Daily TechnoCorrespondent".

TechnoCyberspace:
In this project, students become entrepreneurs who use the
Internet to do business with their customers. Establishing
email, creating a mailing list, researching the
competition, and engaging in a videoconference introduce
students to e-commerce.

TechnoExplorer:
In this project, students take part in an adventure
that teaches them about the Internet in a fun way. The
excitement starts when they search for two missing friends
lost in cyberspace, TechnoBit and TechnoByte. Email,
inter-relay chat, and e-greetings are used to exchange
information about their whereabouts.

TechnoManager:
In this project, students become managers of a
computer hardware store. They use their organizational
skills to systematically sort out and format the lists of
store inventory using an Excel workbook.

TechnoMovie:
In this project, students become moviemakers. Their
animated production tells the tale of a child who journeys
into another world on an adventure. Using digital photos,
video clips, and animated gifs, the story comes to life,
with a voice narration explaining each exciting event.

TechnoNet:
In this project, students become webmasters, publishing a
web site to the WWW. They analyze web pages to determine
features that make it appealing. Once they have a clear
idea about what a page should contain they design a
"Fun Web Links" site that has hyperlinks to fun
places for kids on the Internet.

TechnoPoet:
In this project, students become poets. They learn how to
use word processing software to produce a collection of
poetry. Skills such as how to format text and graphics,
write using Word Art and edit words using the thesaurus
are taught. They apply this knowledge to compose poems
that will make the reader giggle and smile.

TechnoQuest:
In this project, students go on a quest to rescue the
king. On their journey they help the Master of the Wood
save the Forest of Mystery. He grants them a key to the
Library of Knowledge. In the library they pair up to learn
about Medieval Times, which provides the knowledge needed
to rescue the king.

TechnoReporter:
In this project, students become reporters for the
environmental newsletter "Friends of the
Planet". They voice their concerns about an
endangered species by writing a factual article. The
document attracts attention as it contains advanced
formatting techniques.
